Helen M. Vein                                              Date of Death: April 25, 2007

Helen M. Vein, 86, of Steubenville, Ohio died Wednesday, April 25, 2007 after a brief illness. She was born in Steubenville on February 14, 1921 a daughter of the late Mile and Anna Momcilovich Petkovic Vein. She was a member of Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church; Kings Daughters Serve Others Circle; and Delta Kappa Gamma for 35 years. Helen served as past president of the Jefferson County Chapter of the American Heart Association. Helen began her career in nursing as an RN at the former Ohio Valley Hospital in 1943. Before her retirement in 1986, Helen served as Floor Supervisor from 1947-1962; Nursing Supervisor from 1963- 1968 and Director of Inservice Education from 1968-1986. She also served as chairman of the Infection Control Dept. Preceding Helen in death were her parents; brother Eli Petkovic; sisters Lillian Petkovic and Daisy Woods. Helen is survived by two sisters Mildred “Mimi” (late husband Walter) Ostovich of Steubenville and Dorothy (husband Eli) Brdar of Sewickley, PA; nephew Wayne E. (wife Norma) Petkovic of Delaware, OH; great nephew Daniel E. Petkovic of Columbus and life-long friend Alice M. Ryan of Wintersville. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville on Friday 1-4 & 6-8 p.m. where services will be held at noon Saturday with Very Rev. Rade Merick officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben. Memorials may be directed to Holy Resurrection Church Cemetery Endowment Fund -or- to the charity of the donor’s choice.
