Russell T. “Russ” Carpenter, 72 of Steubenville, Ohio died Friday December 21, 2001 at Carriage Inn of Cadiz, OH. He was born in Canton, Ohio on December 27, 1928 a son of the late Clarence E. Carpenter. He was a member of Pleasant Hills Baptist Church, Steubenville, OH and a Navy vet of the Korean Conflict. Russ retired from Wgh-Pgh Steel Corp. as a millwright. He was preceded in death by his first wife Arlene M. Craven Carpenter on November 28, 1995; three sons Michael (1994), Floyd (1977) and Scott (1962); and one daughter Oretha Huffine (2001). Surviving are his wife Wanda Pyles Carpenter whom he married Sept. 21, 1996; three sons Clarence (Donna) Carpenter of Benton, IL, Bruce (Kathy) Carpenter and David Carpenter both of Toronto, OH; three daughters Linda Carpenter of Sparta, IL, Christine (Rick) Hendrickson and Winifred Carpenter both of Steubenville; mother Lucy Baker of Carrollton, OH; three stepsons William (Janet) Judge of Scio, OH, Thomas (Colleen) Judge of Effingham, SC and Thomas Smith of Steubenville; sister Jean Stenger of Carrollton and brother Charles Carpenter of Akron, OH; 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Friends may call at the Pleasant Hills Baptist Church, 2305 St. Rt. 213, Steubenville (740/282-4364) on Sunday 2-6 p.m. and on Monday from 11 a.m. until time of services at noon with Pastor Tommy Mills officiating. Burial at Center Chapel Cemetery, Steubenville, OH. where the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct services.
