Daniel J. Brondos

August 1, 1925 ~ December 18, 2014 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Daniel J. Brondos of Bloomingdale, Ohio died at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2014.  His wife, Martha Jane, and his daughters were at his bedside.

Daniel was born August 1, 1925, in Coal Ridge, Ohio.  He attended Steubenville Public Schools and worked evenings in his father’s coal mine.  After graduating from Steubenville High School he served as a tank gunner in the 31st Battalion of the 7th Armored Division which endured World War II’s Battle of the Bulge and other horrific events.  Once discharged he obtained a degree from The Ohio State University and continued with graduate school. 

He worked for his family’s construction business, Brondos Construction, for years after graduation.  In 1959 he married Martha Jane Allen and built their own home in Bloomingdale, Ohio.  Once they began a family he started his teaching career at Jefferson Union High School where he taught mathematics, psychology, and was the Dean of Boys.  During summers and throughout his retirement he enjoyed growing extensive crops of fruits and vegetables.  He spent the last two years of his life at Sienna Skilled Care.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary (Rebar) Brondos, his siblings, Mary Tessler, Pauline, Paul, Edward, and Eleanor Reitter, and his grandson, Daniel Stone.

He leaves behind his sister Doris Vercimak of California, his wife, Martha Jane, and daughters, Janet (Charles) Stone of South Bend, Indiana and Donna (Dave) Yohe of Willoughby, Ohio.  He also leaves his grandchildren, Laurel, Natalie (great-grandchild, Ava), Joseph and Samuel all of South Bend, David Yohe of Indianapolis, Indiana and Diana of Pittsburgh, PA.

Visiting hours will be 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m., Sunday, December 21st at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville.  Services will be held Mon day, December 22nd at 11 a.m., with Rev. C. Robert Meyer officiating.  Graveside services will follow at Union Cemetery, Steubenville where military honors will be accorded.
