



Andrew “Andy” Harrison Hammack, 74, of Hopedale, OH formerly of Steubenville passed away surrounded by his children on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Valley Hospice North in Steubenville. Andrew was born July 29, 1934 in Mingo Junction, OH. He was employed by Vanadium Metals, Foote Mineral Company and Weirton Steel. He was President of USW Local #5664, District 23 serving on the National USW Ways and Means Committee. Prior to his retirement, Andrew was owner/operator of Industrial Equipment Repair Service, Inc., Andrew Hammack, Inc., California Computer Company and Weirton Enterprises, Inc. He was a self made businessman. He was an active member and past deacon of Starkdale Presbyterian Church of Steubenville, a charter member of the GKL Sportsman’s Club and past Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #88. He guided the Boy Scout Troop on “100 mile a foot and a float” canoe trip with Amos Hammack and Ted Vahorn. He was a past member of Jefferson County 4H and a former Jefferson County Health King at the county fair. He previously managed the Wintersville Airport, was a private pilot, avid scuba diver and outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, canoeing and traveling. Preceded in death by his parents Floyd Allen and Melissa June Staib Hammack; brother William Amos Hammack; sisters Verna Fay Bateman and Helen Ann Henry. Andy is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Anne Irwin Hammack; daughter Cynthia Anne (Mark) Bordash; son Robert “Randy” Andrew (Sylvia) Hammack; sisters Wilda Williamson and Sue Mitchell; grandchildren Kelly (Chris) Dopp, Matthew Bordash, Robert Deal, Melissa (Paul) Miller, Christopher Deal, Derek Andrew Hammack; great granddaughters Autumn and Alexis Miller. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Monday 7-9p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9p.m. Friends may also call on Wednesday from 10:30a.m. until time of service 11:00 a.m. at Starkdale Presbyterian Church, 4600 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, OH with Rev.
