



Thomas Sharp Brown, 70, retired educator, died Saturday January 14, 2012 at Allegheny General Hospital after a long battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Ruth Sharp Brown. He was born March 6, 1941 in Wheeling, West Virginia. Tom graduated from Smithfield High Scholl Class of 1959, received his B.S. from The College of Steubenville and his M.S. in Biology from Michigan State University. He was awarded a National Science Foundation grant from MSU in 1970, of which he was especially proud. Tom retired after 32 years of teaching. First at Martins Ferry High School and later at Wayne Local and Wintersville High School. He was also the head of toxicology at St. John’s Medical Center from 1970-1982. After retirement, he taught at Jefferson Community College and West Virginia Northern Community College. Tom also took over 500 students on a cultural exchange program to eight European countries. This program was adopted by the Wintersville High School Board of Education as the first cultural exchange program in the district. Tom was a member and past elder of Bloomingdale Presbyterian Church, Unionport Masonic Lodge #333, Steubenville Scottish Rite and past patron of Unionport Order of Eastern Star #360 . Tom was also a member of the Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association, The Ohio Education Association and The American Association for the Advancement of Science. Tom is survived by his wife Margaret (White) Brown; daughter Mary Margaret Brown of Columbus, OH; son Brandon (Melissa) Brown of Toronto, OH; two grandsons Ethan and Colin Brown. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Tuesday from 4p.m. until time of service 8p.m. with Rev. Bob Meyer officiating.
