Virginia E. Pancoast
Virginia Elizabeth (Davidson) Pancoast, 93, of Wintersville, Ohio, died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at Valley Hospice Care Center North, surrounded by her family. She was born July 5, 1914 in Mingo Junction, Ohio to the late Frank and Louise (Otte) Davidson. Virginia graduated from Mingo Junction High School in 1932 and worked at Kresege’s Five and Dime, Weirton Steel, and JC Penney’s. She married Norman V. Pancoast in 1936; they were married for 71 years. Virginia was a member of the Starkdale Presbyterian Church since 1959, where she served as a deacon and an elder. She was also president of the church’s Women’s Organization, president of the Women’s Club of Wintersville, treasurer of the Women’s Friendship Club, and a member of Eastern Star. She was infamous for her homemade craft projects and shared her skills by teaching crafts and creating the large crocheted Lord’s Prayer piece on display at the church. Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Norman, and sisters Margaret (Peg) Steele and Helen Whitten. She is survived by a daughter, Margaret P. Gray (Bob); a son, Dale E. Pancoast (Darla); five grandchildren (Beth Ann, Linda, Stacie, Lisa, Scott); five great-grandchildren (Dahlya, Noelle, Ryan, Taylor, Graham). Friends may call at the Starkdale Presbyterian Church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11a.m. with Rev. Dr. Philip Makari officiating. Burial at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Valley Hospice Care Center North or Starkdale Presbyterian Church’s Memorial Funds.
