George A. "Cookie" Rogers


George A. “Cookie” Rogers, 87, of Steubenville, Ohio died Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Trinity West. He was born April 12, 1921 in Steubenville the son of the late George S. & Lillian Anderson Rogers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Catherine Bland, whom he married on July 17, 1944. George was the retired owner of Standard Carbon Co. in Wintersville and a retired consultant for Standard Carbon of Ohio. He was a 1939 graduate of Steubenville High School and both the College of Steubenville and Ohio State University earning bachelors degree in engineering at each institution. He was a member of First Westminster Presbyterian Church, Session and past congregation president. Very active in Masonic organizations, he was Past Master of Pilgrim Lodge 691 F&AM; Past High Priest of Union Chapter 15 RAM; Past Illustrious Master of Union Council 2 R&SM; Past Commander of Steubenville Commandery and a Knight York Cross of Honor of Ohio Priory 18. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; LaBelle Chapter 414 Order of the Eastern Star; Osiris Temple Shrine and Steubenville Shrine Club. In the mid 1960’s George served as 3rd Ward Steubenville Councilman. He was a member of The Buckeye Club, Presidents Club and Alumni Association of Ohio State University. He was an Emeritus Trustee of the Salvation Army Board of Directors. George served as president of Symposiarchs and a member of the Steubenville Rotary Club, American Legion Argonne Post 33, VFW and Elks. George is survived by his daughters Andrea Jane Rogers of Steubenville and Susan Noreen Rogers of Mentor, Ohio. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville Tuesday 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where a service will be held Thursday 10 a.m. with Rev. Robert Shearer officiating.
