Victor V. Caranna
Victor V. Caranna, 92, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Steubenville, Ohio died Sunday, November 8, 2009 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
He was born January 8, 1917 in Bellaire, Ohio, and attended St. Johns High School.  He married Phyllis (Farchione) Caranna on August 28, 1941.  They were long time residents of Steubenville, Ohio and raised five children together.  
Victor was honorably discharged from the United States Army on January 22, 1946 after serving four years during World War II.  Following his service in the military, Victor was employed by Pietro DiNovo and Son, subsequently he was employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel for 25 years and held a number of positions before retiring from the Quality Control Department in 1979.
While residing in Steubenville, Victor was an active member and first Council President of Holy Rosary Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Knight; founding member and first president of the St. Frances Society of Holy Rosary Church; member of the Theta Chi Alpha Fraternity from 1946 until 1979 and member of the YMS (Young Men’s Society) of Steubenville. 
Victor was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis in 2004 and beloved son-in-law John Mayerich in 2007.  He was also preceded in death by his parents Calogero “Charles” Caranna and Carmella Magistro Caranna who immigrated from Brolo, Sicily.  He was preceded in death by ten sisters, listed oldest to youngest, Angela Caranna (1941), Giovanina “Jenny” Caranna (1932), Domenica “Minnie” Abbot (1985), Antoinette “Nina” Caranna (1929), Josephine “Josie” Caranna, who became Sister Charles Clare of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth (1995), Louise DeVault (2005), Ellen Pompei (1981), Virginia “Ginny” Wachter (1992), Adeline Presutti (2006), Mary Caranna (1929).
He is survived by his loving children: Dr. Charles (Deborah) Caranna of Columbus, Ohio, Victor (Nancy) Caranna of Grand Prairie, Texas, Michael (Diana) Caranna of Eastlake, Ohio, Carol  Mayerich of Riverview, Michigan, and Anthony Caranna of Canton, Michigan; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.  Funeral liturgy with Mass  11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Rosary Church with Rev. Tom Nau officiating.  Entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Vigil service 3:45 p.m. Tuesday
