Avis Brown Obituary

Avis M. Brown, 90, of Tyler, Texas, passed away May 3, 2018, in Medical Center Hospital in Tyler, Texas.  She was born April 27, 1928, in Wintersville, Ohio, daughter of the late Theodore M. and Margaret E. Wilson Brown. She was preceded in death by her sister Laura Hobson and her brothers James, Charles, and David.  She was a graduate of Wintersville High School and Ohio Valley Hospital School of Nursing. She then went to Cincinnati General Hospital for anesthesia school. She worked and taught there. In 1955 she moved to Tyler, Texas, and worked as an anesthetist at Medical Center Hospital until her retirement about 40 years later. Avis was the director of the Anesthesiology Department at the time of her retirement.  She loved her work and was dedicated to her patients.  Avis was a member of the Marvin United Methodist Church and the Friendly Sunday School Class.  She loved her church and Sunday School Class.  She delighted in baking cookies and donating them for church functions.  She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and watching the Texas Rangers baseball team.  Avis is survived by her brother Russell (Marty) of Port Clinton, Ohio, and sister Margaret Lutz of Middletown, PA. She is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews and their families she loved dearly.  Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Friday from 10:30 until the time of funeral service at 12:30 p.m.  with nephew David Brown officiating.  Burial at Fort Steuben.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friendly Sunday School Class of the Marvin United Methodist Church, 300 West Erwin Street, Tyler, Texas, 75702.
