Arthur Michael, Jr. Obituary

Arthur D. Michael Jr. (known to his family and friends as’Bud’), age 89, passed away peacefully on Dec. 31, 2021. Arthur was born on Sept. 19, 1932 to Arthur D. and Prema Michael in Morgantown, WV.  Arthur graduated from Morgantown High School in 1950. 

Arthur served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in 1952-1954 and was honorably discharged.   He married Christena Carol Sponaugle in 1957 and they celebrated 58 years of marriage before her passing in 2015. 

Arthur was employed by Weirton Steel as an electrical foreman and retired in 1991 after 41 years. He was also a bailiff for the Jefferson County Court for 48 years.

Arthur was a member of Bell Chapel United Methodist Church.

Those who knew Arthur Michael, know that he had an extensive Masonic history.  He also served as the head of many of those bodies, most of which are located in Steubenville, Ohio.

He was a member of the following:

Pilgrim Lodge No.691, Union Chapter No.15, Council No. 2, (order of Silver Trowel), Steubenville Commandery  No. 11 (KCT, Grand Commander of Ohio 2004-2005), Ohio Pryory No.18 (KYGCH), Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville ( Honorary 33rd in 1990), Aladdin Shrine Club of Columbus and Steubenville, Commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel in 1984, Knight Masons of Ireland, Red Cross of Constantine, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Royal Order of Scotland, Allied Masonic Degrees, Knight Commander of the Red Branch of Eri, York Rite College (Order of the Purple Cross), OES LaBelle Chapter No. 414 & Union Port No. 360,  DeMolay (Past DD, Past Gov, Legion of Honor), Rainbow Girls (Grand cross of color), Order of St Thomas of Acon.

 

Arthur was predeceased by his parents, his wife Carol, daughter Rhonda Michael Stellrecht, grandson Zack Michael and great-grandaughter Reagan Rose Doyle.  He is survived by sons Douglas Michael (Jenn), Edward Michael (Peggy), 7 grandchildren, Ave Stone (Dan), Jeffrey Brown (Laura), Megan Brown, Angelina Michael, Kelley Michael (Dan), Hannah Willson (Justin), Emily Sparks (Jon) and 10 great-grandchildren.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to his granddaughter, Kelley Michael for the loving care and compassion she extended to her ‘Pap’ during the last several years. 

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Thursday, January 6, from 3-6 p.m. Funeral services 10 a.m. Friday, January 7, at the funeral home. Entombment at Fort Steuben Burial Estates.

Masonic Services 6 p.m. Thursday

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be sent to The Benefit of Brayden Tipton, 340 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, Ohio 43953  OR  Shriner's Childrens Hospital.
