Shirley Anne Hammack, 84, of Hopedale, Ohio, formerly of Steubenville, passed away on Friday, October 21st, 2022, at Gables Care Center after a serious accident.
Shirley was born March 1, 1938, in Cadiz, Ohio. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Hammack, to whom she was married to for 53 years, her son, Robert Andrew “Randy” Hammack, her parents Robert D. Irwin and Pauline S. Irwin, siblings, Richard D. Irwin, Catherine Bernosky, Rozie Klan, George Kozel, Jr., Rudy Rodich, Melvin “Butch” Rodich.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Anne (Mark) Bordash, her daughter-in-law, Sylvia Ann Hammack, grandchildren Kelly Anne (Chris) Dopp, Matt (Amy) Bordash, Derek Hammack, Melissa (Jake) Geary, Christopher Deal, Robert Deal, and great-grandchildren, Beckett Dopp, Casher Dopp, Autumn Miller, Lexi Miller, Peyton Geary, TJ Geary, and RJ Deal. She is survived by siblings, Joe (Carolyn) Litten, Marlene Worklan, Mary Garrett and brother-in-law, Charles (Avis) Henry, Sister-in-law, Kay Rodich, and many nieces and nephews.
During her life, Shirley was a dedicated mother, wife, and traveled with, and assisted her husband, Andy, in his many business ventures and adventures. As member of Starkdale Presbyterian Church, she contributed to many church committees, also serving her community as President of the Mingo Jr. Women’s Club, a member of Mingo Band Boosters, and Hill’s School PTO. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge of everything from panning for gold to various crafts by presenting at school visits and scout meetings. She loved playing piano, decorating, and creating wreaths and floral arrangements for friends, family, and church. Shirley loved to entertain and travel with groups of friends, school chums, or her extended family from Alaska, to Western United States, to tropical islands, on cruises, by train, by car, or her husband’s private plane. While she and Andy lived in St. Thomas, VI, they repeatedly, opened their home to host family and friends, building many lasting memories.
The family would like to thank the incredible care and support of everyone at Gables Care Center and the empathy and comfort demonstrated by the staff at Valley Hospice.
Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, from 3pm to 6pm. Friends may also call on Thursday from 9:30 until the service at 10:00 on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Rev. Carl Moore, officiating. Interment will be at the Fort Steuben Burial Estates.
