Robert “Bob” Montford Westlake, 97, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away quietly Monday, February 8, 2016 at the home of his daughter, Roberta L. Young.  He was born in Steubenville, OH on  October 20, 1918, he was the son of the late Mont Ford Westlake and Clara (Lodge) Westlake.  He was preceded in death by his son Robert Michael (twin of daughter, Roberta) and his wife Mary Wilma (Gerchak) Westlake.  Robert was a catcher for the Bill and Faye Baseball Team in the mid ‘40s, coach of the Wintersville Little League Baseball Team in the mid ‘50s.  He was a veteran of W.W.II serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in both the Asiatic-Pacific and European Theater Operations.  He was a member of the American Legion, Steubenville Post#33, V.F.W, Masonic Lodge, Steubenville #45, Osiris Shriners and Finley United Methodist Church.  His greatest love was the game of golf, when he became a caddy at the age of 14.  He and his wife, endearingly remembered as “Squirrel”, could be found most days at the LaBelle “Goat Hill” Golf Course.  Upon retirement from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, they moved to Florida “to live their dream” and play golf in the sun for 34 years.  They continued to follow the Pro Golf Tour in the South as they had done in the Tri-State area.  He played on courses in Ireland and Scotland, including St. Andrews.  He retired his clubs at the age of 95.  Robert is survived by his daughter, Roberta (John) Young of Steubenville, OH; three grandchildren Amber (David) Umphlett of Egg Harbor, NJ, S.Sgt. William (Sofia) Sargeant of Tipp City, OH and Jennifer (Jake) Myers of Commercial Point, OH; eight grandchildren Abigail, Allison, Gabriel, Julia, Olivia, Christian, Jacob and Brittany; two great grandchildren Bronx and Jude.  Per Robert’s request final arrangements will be immediate with no services.
